Okiki Podcast Episode 33: Investment Lessons from Forbes Top 50 Angel Investors James Sowers
James Sowers is one of the top 50 angel investors in the world, according to Forbes, with over 65 investments and counting. This is all the more impressive since he came from humble beginnings.
James was adopted from South Korea and he was in an orphanage and the first cohort (who) came over in 1974 with Catholic Charities. A couple from Baltimore, Maryland paid only $300.00 for him, as he explains, “I think it was for the flights, and also, for the immunizations.” (Source: Thrive Global, 2020)
Growing up as a minority and looking for his sense of identity in his surroundings he looked to legends like Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth Ty Cobb, Ted Williams. In addition he learned about business, success and failure from Shelby Davis, Ben Graham and Jess Livermore, the Rockefellers and the Carnegie’s who assisted in his formation of who he is today (Source: Thrive Global, 2020).
